  1. 1. At first I didnt know what to think about the ending of the story. I was sort of dumb-founded when I realized that everyone pretty much died. The book seemed like an everyday, played out present-day horror movie! However, when I thought deeper into the plot I realized the story was quite complex.
When Victor died, I thought,'Well, I could've figured this was going to happen", because everyone he loved had died, and the grief of their deaths and his decision was going to be too much to bare at one point. I wasnt shocked at all at his outcome.
However, the Creature's death was a little suprising to me because it wasn't an expected thing to do. I figured that Mary Shelley would leave the Creature alive to show how evil, sometimes, prevails in a sense; that not every little thing in life comes out the way its planned or the 'right' way.
Both Victor and the Creature were looking for revenge on each other in the end, instead of one being the 'bigger' person and saying I'll back off and let you live your life. Neither of the two decided to try and even comprise with the other. It was a race to death I believe.
I believe that because neither of the two made the right decision they were punished bth meantally and physically, if possible for the Creature.

  2. Well what can i say, i think victor was looking for it. His fate was pretty much set up from the beginning of the story, ever since he created the creature he knew he will have some hard steps throughout the story. Victor dying was pretty obvious i mean the monster was determined to anything in his power to make his life a miserable one. And going out and killing hes wife that right there was my favorite part of the book. I never saw that coming. And then the way the monster would leave victor steps to follow him was awesome and very detailing. But The monster dying was really unexpected. I thought he would move on and still try to make at least a friend or look for someone that would understand that it wasn't his fault that hes like this. This novel had its ups and downs but besides that it is a great book even though the literature was pretty hard to read. Haven't read a good book in a while. Fate was determined to both victor and creature they didn't focus and didn't understand each other pretty well.

  3. Cindy Sanchez,
    Question#1

Victor’s curiosity led him to the creation of life. He succeeds in creating a “human” life, yet he doesn’t take responsibility for his actions. As many people believe that things happen the way they do because of their fate, so they do things as they wish. Then, destiny is just something people use to blame for when things turn out to be something unexpected like Victor. Victor and society didn’t accept his creation because of his appearance. It’s not the creature’s fault he was born like that. He’s an innocent creature that doesn’t know what life has planned for him. He was abandoned and had no support. He had to find out everything by himself and learn from watching others. He wasn’t treated like a human. Cruelty was all he learned. His feeling of abandonment and loneliness compels him to seek revenge against his creator that’s why he turned out to be the creature he was at the end. In this world everything you do you pay for it, it might not be at that instant, but it will get you back as it happened in this book. Victor was cruel and irresponsible, and at the end the creature took vengeance. Victor took the consequences for his actions and captures our understanding.

  4. Cindy Sanchez,
    Question #2

The strength I saw in the novel “Frankenstein” is that it illustrates both the good and evil qualities in each of its main characters. The weaknesses were that Victor did not see the reality of his creation. He didn’t see the fact that he had created a human. Victor's shows his selfish, and immaturity behavior. Yes, I found myself engaged in both the central conflict and the question Mary Shelley raises. The central conflict was Victor created life and then abandoned it. Yet, what I found more interesting was the questions she raises “Can a man create life, then abandon his creation because of its appearance?”, and also “To who are its actions then attributable: the creature or the being who brought about its existence?” These questions make us doubt, but are also some question to think about after reading this novel, and also it gives a lesson. I believe that Frankenstein is a well crafted novel. It has some really tough vocabulary which makes it hard to understand. In today’s society many people judge others by their appearance which I believe is wrong because many times what they look like may not be the way they are like Frankenstein everyone saw him as a “monster” because he was gigantic and ugly and they treated him like an animal. Reading this book will make others understand the way our society is and how others can be cruel, but at the end they suffer the consequences and face reality. Taking responsibility for our own actions is something that is very important in life. Don’t do something you aren’t wiling to take consequences for as you will learn by reading this book. Giving life a gift. I would recommend this book to others it is a romantic gothic novel that has what most people in today’s history look for in a book which is mystery, and horror.

  5. I believe that everybody sets their own standards and wishes. If Victor Frankenstein lived the life he did was only because he had put himself in all of those situations. Such as creating a monster, trying to seek for knowledge and staying away from society. He was so anxious of always learning more and more that a result was creating Frankenstein. That is when a lot of his problems started to develop. Personally I think he shouldn’t of have created Frankenstein, because of Frankenstein victor was going a little bit crazy. Victor was able to reach one of his goals because he was able to seek more knowledge than anyone else but having that more knowledge made him not know how to control it. The creature was smarter than what he thought; it turned out to be more than what he had planned. A better thing would off been that the creature was not as scary looking and maybe people would of accepted him a little bit more. Even though a lot of people say it is not true looks do matter. Not only that but if Victor would of thought Frankenstein good manners and how to talk to humans in a proper way the story wouldn’t had to have need in such a tragedy.

  6. One of the biggest strengths of the novel was obviously Frankenstein in general. Many people always like to find things discover new adventures I believe that this book is a mystery book. First of all because of the cover, it has a picture of a weird “thing” I believe that many people would be interested in knowing what the book is about. Also humans are naturally attracted to abnormal things. There is a big disadvantage the book has though. Even thou the cover attracts the readers and buyers; the introduction is not as interesting as it appears. The whole story within a story within a story might be confusing to some people. When the book started I was kind of lost because I would think that it was going to start talking about Frankenstein, but in some way it was good for it not to start in that way. Because this keeps the readers interested of knowing when the creature will come up in the novel. Another disadvantage that I believe the novel has is that the speaker is constantly changing. That would get me lost sometimes because I didn’t know who was talking. I would get engaged in some of the central conflicts like when Victor feels isolated from everyone. I believe that everyone has felt like that at least once in their life. Frankenstein the novel is not such a good piece of literature in my opinion, I think there should off been more action and enthusiasm in the characters, on how they would speak and describe others. On a scale of one through ten I would give a novel an eight. Just because of the fact that for me there was not enough action. I would recommend the book to others because we all have different thoughts and feelings and maybe they would like it more than what I did.

  7. 1.As we read Victor’s fate was pretty much set up from when the creature first killed someone. I just think the novel was dragged on a bit, we all knew he was going to die so just kill him already why wait so long? It seems it was well deserved what victor got, he was a selfish cold hearted man. It is expected if you create something it can and probably will turn against you at some point especially if you treat it horribly. You can’t just create something and push it way it need love and attention that is where Victor went wrong. Because he is so smart he fails to see how the real world is! All he really cares about is his studies or what he can discover. If Victor had taught the creature everything he knew things would have been way different! It seems that he was better of dead, where did doesn’t have to worry, and doesn’t have to be scared. As for the creature I assumed he would have died or killed him self in his misery! It’s unbelievable that all her cared about was killing his creator, yeah Victor deserved it but now that he killed him what is he going to do?
2.The biggest weakness I saw was how the novel just dragged on. The night the creature killed Victor’s wife he could have killed Victor and the wife. Like I said before why wait? Just get it done and out of the way! The main strength which I loved was how Mary Shelley showed and went into detail how the creature learned a lot of things and craved love. Making him the way he was after being rejected so many times. For instance when the creature was watching the cottagers he learned a lot from them and grow in many ways, he changed before our eyes. I loved seeing how he felt for them and seeing him than in the end getting rejected and beat than going crazy. That chapter was the only time I was truly engaged in the novel. It felt as if the was some sort of meaning behind it. I also loved the great vocabulary Mary Shelley incorporated in her novel and how you can get a perfect image in your head by what she writes. As for the questions she raises they didn’t really seem to pop out at me I guess because this is not the type of litterateur I tend to read. It is a very well crafted novel even with the weak point Mary Shelley had many things to make it a great novel. I believe the beginning of the book could have been written a little better it was not very interesting; to be honest I don’t even know what it was about! I also think she could have just cut out those chapters where Victor just talks about how bad he felt for everything that has happen, one chapter is enough to explain it. I would defiantly recommend the book and tell them maybe just skip a few chapters like we did in class.

  8. 1. Victor Frankenstein took part of his fathers research and wanted to finish what he had started. He became obsessed with trying to create life in curiosity and hopes of fame. This story is a tragedic one, in means that they all die. If perhaps Victor had shown the "monster", a little love and compassion, there's a big possibility the situations would have been different. We all could sense the foreshadowing in the story. We knew some type of evil was going to occur. We are no one to say who can live and who dies, thats not our place to say for we've all done wrong. However one could say Victor had it coming to him. My heart went out to Victor when his love Elizabeth dies..I can only imagine how ugly that must've felt. The creation i must say i feel much more sympathy for. For he was like a child, innocent and and no knowledge of how the world is. Yet he sees the good in some people and things and tries to make the best of it! He didnt ask to be created and in a sense hated being alive, thanks to Victor, but what can he do...he gets lonely and wants a companion. Who doesnt its natural and very human like maybe thats why he wanted a girl we'll never know, unfortunatley.
    2. A big strengh of the novel was how descriptive and detailed each situation was. Strength on how imaginative and out of this world this novel became to be!! Weakness wise would be how it took a while to get into the action which keeps you having to read, which may bore the reader. Mary Shelley absolutley out did herself with this novel! What an imagination a young girl had that will forever be in history. Not to mention is a huge part in our literature today! Yes indeed it is a well-crafted work of literature. In my op[inion the story is more romantic and dramatic then anything else. For it is a love story..The creature wanting the creator to bring his girlfriend back to life. Sheesh talk about drama! What inspired Mary Shelley to write about such a interesting creature makes me think?! What provoked her?Did she have some relation to the story? Was this a fantasy of hers? I mean i get to thinking if people ahve actually tried to create life in this manner. Its all very grotesque to me, and phycotic, however, brilliant! For it does send shivers on my body as to thinking how emotional this tale comes to be. These types of books are definetley a required want. You must have some desire about literature and reading period to be abke to enjoy this book. I would indeed recommend this book its like no other. The suspense, the horror, the romance its all exhilirating!
